We have worked to breed and grow bobwhite quail that show better genetic qualities, selecting the best adults for breeding, monitoring quality egg production, hatching rates, and chick survivability.
We introduce new blood each year by selecting eggs that we hatch on site and selecting the best chicks to introduce to our flock. We use new breeders each year to ensure quality. We maintain bio security for our quail at all times.
Our adult quail averages eight ounces in weight and show excellent flight characteristics from flush to deliberate landing without seeing the crash-landing characteristic of pen-raised quail. Our quail use avoidance tactics rather than wild flushing, which is a good genetic trait also. Besides bio security and cleaning, we have found that feed is all important and the use of pro-biotics has been an important part of our program. We have Primalac mixed in all of our feed and avoid the use of medicated feeds. We spare no expense when it comes to nutrition. Our feed is a complete ration and is not cut with grain at any time. Medication is done only if needed so diseases cannot build an immunity to the medication. The only scheduled treatment is worming.
The price of quality feed has gone way up over the past few months but, we refuse to cut corners and only use the best we can get. Least cost feed will not work. Our breeders are not kept in buildings. They are exposed to clean air and sunshine and more space. This keeps stress down and produces better eggs, less competition between breeders and healthier breeders throughout the laying season. The quail we hold are weathered, starting at four weeks of age. In warmer weather, they are let out of the brooders and into the fresh air and sunshine. In some cases, the quail are out in flights before five weeks of age. During cooler weather, conditioning can take six weeks. Our quail in flight pens are not provided with large houses. Shelters are provided in the flight pen if needed, but are not used by the birds unless the weather dictates it. For these reasons, our quail are more weather hardy and do well in hot, cold, wet and dry weather. Our chicks are used in restoration programs and by producers, dog trainers and everyone in between. We produce some started and flight birds each year, but the demand for this product has prompted us to supply by orders and contracts, first-come-first-serve. We do not keep quail on speculation in order to manage our program the way it should be. Our quail are NPIP certified, A.I. tested and registered with the Kansas Animal Health department.
If you would like more information on ordering and prices please go to the Request info page and send us your request. Be sure to order early to avoid delays. Quail chicks take 23 -24 days to hatch.
